How Pointazo works
Pointazo is a padel scoring app, built around cheap Bluetooth clickers so nobody has to touch a phone mid-point. Here is what happens, and the questions people ask.
On court
- Pair once. Switch on a Bluetooth key-finder tag, tap Add in the app, and name it after the team.
- Press for a point. One press scores a point for that team. The app follows padel's rules, including golden point and the new star point, and tracks games, sets, tiebreaks and the serve.
- Hear the score. After each point the phone says the score aloud, even with the screen locked.
- Undo a mistake. Press twice quickly to take the last point back, so a stray tap does not cost you.
Questions
Which buttons do I need?
Generic Bluetooth key-finder tags, often sold as "iTag", work. They cost a few pounds each. You need one per team; some people keep a spare. Pointazo does not ship tags, and we have not tested every brand, so start with a pair of the common ones.
Will there be Pointazo tags?
We are thinking about making Pointazo-branded tags. Nothing is decided and nothing is for sale. If you would buy some, tick the optional box when you register your interest: it tells us whether it is worth doing.
Does it work with the screen locked?
Yes. The phone keeps listening for the clickers and speaks the score. Keep Bluetooth on and the app allowed to run in the background.
Can people watch the match live?
Yes. Share a link and friends can follow the score on their phone or in a web browser, with no app needed. Hosting a live match is planned as part of an account.
Which phones will it work on?
We are building for iPhone and Android. Tell us which you use on the sign-up form, so we know where to start.
What happens to my data?
Matches are saved on your phone. If you sign in, they can also be backed up to our server so they follow you to a new phone. Sign-in is with Apple, and we do not see your Apple password. Read the privacy notice.
When does it launch?
Soon. Join the list on the home page and we will email you once, when it is ready.
